thunderstorm369
It is a rare thing to find in the world. There are only a few people who have worked in a firm for wages and finally became its owners. Not to go too far from our place and too back from the presence, we can easily find a person, who was a small-time employee of a newspaper and finally became its owner.Vemuri Radhakrishna, a small time reporter in Andhra Jyothi, today is one of the highly influential persons in the State. He is equally strong and owns a newly-launched ABN Andhra Jyothi news channel.Radhakrishna started his career as a part time reporter (stringer) in Andhra Jyothi. He used to move around on his bicycle in those days in Vijayawada. When he was shifted to Hyderabad, he used his bicycle to attend to the daily engagements. (This is what Lakshmi Parvathi remembers of this man even today).Andhra Jyothi was started by K L N Prasad and had produced several prominent and veteran journalists. The long and holistic history of the paper is lost when KLN’s son, Jagadish Prasad became its managing director. The light of Andhra came to an end in 1999, when the paper was closed due to heavy losses. But, there came Radhakrishna, who, was able to purchase it and revive it. Interestingly, he had the support of several people – the journalist union had helped him to reduce the number of employees in the talks with the old management; the then chief minister, N Chandrababu Naidu had helped him to acquire the paper. It is believed that several of the Telugu Desam leaders were forced to invest in this company while Chandrababu Naidu himself is a sleeping partner. However, Radhakrishna challenges such allegations and claims that the paper is his own property and he had acquired it with his hard earned money. Most of the journalists in the State remember what had happened in August 1995, when Chandrababu Naidu revolted against N T Rama Rao. It is a known fact that how the TD MLAs were driven into the Viceroy Hotel and how the media was managed. There were dozens of suit cases with currency bundles that were gifted to a handful of journalists to manage the show in favour of Chandrababu Naidu. It was these suitcases that were able to finish the strong man, NTR. It was these suitcases that have helped the then speaker Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, to refuse an opportunity for NTR to speak in Assembly. There is so much to learn from and get inspired by Radhakrishna, who rose in his life from a worker to the owner.
