Hyderabad Metro

Since March 22nd, the services of Hyderabad Metro have been suspended. It’s been four months now, still there is no permit for Metro to resume the operations and as a result Hyderabad Metro has incurred a huge loss of Rs 200 crore.

Despite no operations, maintenance of trains, salaries of employees is costing Rs 50 crore every month to Hyderabad Metro. As the losses are piling up, the higher authorities have written to the Telangana government to support them financially.

The resumption of metro is in the hands of Centre and in its last orders, the Centre has deferred the operations till July 31st. The Centre might not allow metro to operate even after the given date as COVID-19 new cases are reporting in large numbers every day. Experts predicted that the influence of COVID-19 could be at peak in August which means Hyderabad Metro will go into further losses.

The Telangana government is yet to respond on Hyderabad Metro’s letter and it will be a tough decision for KCR government to support Metro.

They just started making money, after record no of commuters just before lock down.

Not just in hyd, world wide covid is bad news for public transportation and in general sustainability / green earth initiatives. People will go back to personal vehicles even after COVID

Projects of this scale, it will take decades before they turn into profit. Hyd airport has break even period of 20 years, Metro also has similar break even period..

But for the last one year, Metro’s operation profit has been very good and steady increase in revenues. Although it may take another 20 years for break even.

aa project, aa budget lo 200 Crores is nothing.

It is not just 200 Crore operating loss which is concern for them. on top of it their initial investment is also struck without any profits for foreseeable future.
