Renowned spiritual guru and Tridandi  Chinna Srimannarayana Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamiji said that he would take up a state-wide yatra in Andhra Pradesh in the wake of the series of attacks on Hindu temples and desecration of idols. He said that there is a need to instill confidence among the people over the protection of temples.

The spiritual guru spoke to the media at Sitanagaram near Mangalagiri in Guntur district. There is uncertainty in the state and people are tensed that something untoward can happen any moment, he said.

The Swamiji said that his Dhanurmasa Deeksha would end by January 14 and that he would take up the yatra from January 17. He said that he would visit all the temples that were attacked and all places where the idols were vandalised during the yatra. He would also interact with the locals near these places and collect their opinions and suggestions.

He said that he would meet elders having knowledge of Dharma and chalk out an action plan over the various programmes to be taken up to preserve and protect it.

The spiritual guru lamented that many loopholes in the functioning of the temples were coming to light due to lack of a proper mechanism in the state. He said that there was a need to take up rectification measures to put things in the right track at all the places where shrines were attacked. He said that he was planning the yatra as he cannot remain silent when the existence of temples was at threat. Strict action should be initiated against all those involved in the attacks and temple related crimes, he said.

“Be it a church, temple or a mosque, vandalising places of worship should be considered a serious crime,” he added.

It is not good on the part of individuals to take up this path for their vested interests and publicity. There is a limit to test the patience of the society or individuals, he said, adding that linking up politics and religion was not proper.

He suggested that the higher officials of the state government should take up measures to provide assurance to the people that their religious sentiments would not be hurt. He felt that the crime rate would come down if people feel secure spiritually.
