Thummala Paleru teesukunte things may not have been the same. Plaeru lo Reddi population ekkuva plus more dominant. Kandala doesn't have a bad name. He was more attentive to people in Paleru, although he jumped parties. He only lost because of Ponguleti, as Ponguleti in laws are very dominant force in Paleru. Now they have a Congress wave backing them. Also, Thummala lost to Kandala last time. Khammam has about 50k Kamma votes, followed 38k moslem votes. Puvvada vs Thummala triggered as Kamma caste vote split, but about 2/3 votes went  for Thummala. Most of the moslem votes went to Thummala as well because he contested from Congress. Last time when Puvvada won those went to Puvvada. Then there are 33k SC votes, bulk of whom voted Congress blindly. All that made that 50k majority possible.

I heard the reverse. This information was from talasani who told my dad. Puvvada pleaded with Dora and China Dora to see that Ponguleti and Thummala doesn't leave BRS. But, Dora and his son were adamant, and felt that no need to convince both to stay, let them learn by going out of party. It did a big damage to BRS. Puvvada even spent 7k per vote from 3pm on day of voting, but didn't result in victory, due to anti government wave. Ground level BRS leader became so arrogant and one sided which is why they didn't vote BRS. Arrogance is what led to Thummala's defeat in 2004.
