Here is the synopsis -

 

Tonda Dickerson’s story took a turn when she decided to take the lottery winnings as annuity payments over 30 years, amounting to $375,000 per year. This decision was considered smart as it allowed her to receive a more substantial sum and prevented her from overspending. However, the joy of winning was short-lived as she soon found herself embroiled in multiple legal battles. The first lawsuit came from her colleagues at the Waffle House. They claimed that there was an agreement to share the lottery winnings if any of them won. Tonda denied such an agreement, leading to a court battle. Initially, she was offered a $3 million out-of-court settlement, which she turned down. The court initially ruled against her, ordering her to split the winnings with her coworkers, but the decision was reversed by the Alabama Supreme Court on appeal. In a shocking twist, Tonda’s ex-husband, Stacy Martin, whom she had divorced in 1997, attempted to kidnap her. He held her hostage in her truck, threatening to kill her. In self-defense, Tonda reached into her bag, pulled out her gun, and shot him in the chest. She then drove him to the hospital herself.
