In some areas of North Dallas, I, my wife and some of my friends who don’t know Telugu  language have observed that Telugu based owners and co-workers in Indian stores assume that everyone who walks in the store knows telugu language and start speaking with us in telugu language.
Nothing against the language or telugu community and we respect for serving us desis outside our home nation, but is this a good attitude to assume any Indian looking face ahould know telugu language? What should be the appropriate response to them, should one also start replying in native language by default?
