YSRC seeks same day polling in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

The YSR Congress party on Tuesday requested the Election Commission of India to see that polling for general elections in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana be held on the same day in a single phase so as to avoid double voting by some people.

A delegation of YSRCP leaders, led by party general secretary V Vijay Sai Reddy met chief election commissioner Rajeev Kumar, who was in Vijayawada to oversee poll preparedness in the state for the upcoming assembly and general elections.

Sai Reddy pointed out to the CEC that several people from Andhra Pradesh who had settled in Telangana had registered themselves as voters in both the states.

“If the polling is held separately in the two states on different dates, there is a possibility of these voters indulging in double voting,” he said.

The YSRCP general secretary alleged that there was an enrolment drive in Telangana for Andhra settlers asking them to enrol their names in AP.

“This is illegal. Only after they get their names deleted as voters in Telangana, they should be allowed to enrol their names in Telangana,” he said.

Sai Reddy also found fault with the Election Commission for inviting Jana Sena Party for talks as the party doesn’t any recognition and allotting glass tumbler symbol for the party.

Alleging that the chief electoral officer of Andhra Pradesh was accepting bogus complaints from Telugu Desam Party, the YSRCP leader asked the EC to give instructions not to entertain the TDP complaints.

“They are making false claims about bogus enrolment of voters, but the Collectors certified that there was no bogus enrolment and everything was in order,” he said.
