Ila recession vachina prati sari, companies (irrespective of IT or other industries) start bothering employees in the hope that they leave by themselves saving money to company. Or at least they have criteria to fire someone. 

Theme is common - Tighten the review process, no promotions, SMART goals and objectives, etc. Companies are not investing in new projects and saving money. That's why all this drama and focus on efficiency, performance, etc.
