My Cousin moved from India about 5 years ago and comfortably living life in Austin Tx. He bought house in Austin Tx and asking suggestion on going back to India and claimed his expenses are getting out of control with managing 2 kids here.

He and his wife both work in a very reputed companies and make around $250k per year.

- Bought home in Austin for $750k last year and Monthly Mortgage Payment - $4800

- Owning Tesla Model Y with Monthly Auto Payment - $1200

- First Kid - Elementary school - Monthly extra curricular activities (Dance, Swimming, Kung fu, Tutoring expenses) -  $300

- Second Kid - Monthly Day Care expense - $1200

- Car Insurance Payments (Monthly) for 2 cars - $180

- Grocery Bills(Costco, Indian Groceries) - $500

- Shopping (Clothes, household stuff) - $500

- Phone, Internet, Utility, Power, Gas - $500 - $800 can vary by season

- Vacation expenses (Quarterly) - $2000 - $5000 minimum

Total aggregate expenses are around $10k -$11k per month which offsets the Monthly pay check and his concern is about savings.

He actually owns his own paid off apartment in a Gated community in India and claiming he can save more in India if he and his wife work as expenses are low in India.

Do you think he should return to India for better prospects or continue to make monthly payments.

Looking at the expense's, still he should be saving at least $50k per yr with salary they get.

less savings ani disappointed?

It sounds like your cousin is facing some tough decisions with his expenses. Moving from one country to another can definitely bring some financial challenges, especially with kids and a mortgage to manage.Given their income and expenses, it might be a good idea for them to explore some additional income sources. They could check out this list of side hustles from https://www.savingadvice.com/articles/2023/12/14/1063125_the-side-hustle-stack-38-easy-ways-to-stack-money-on-the-side.html.
