May be common sense is not so common which shows to be your case. Even going by your language logic Sanskrit is classified as 'Indo European' branch and some further classify it as proto Indo European languages so has links to Greek and Latin and by extension to a lot of European languages.Sanskrit and Old Persian (Avestan) also have a lot in common.
