(KRON) — Hundreds of Walmart employees based out of the Bay Area will be affected by layoffs, according to filings from the California Employment Development Department. Walmart employees based out of Sunnyvale and San Bruno will be affected.

According to EDD information, 180 jobs at Walmart’s Sunnyvale office on West California Avenue and 388 jobs at the 850 Cherry Ave. office in San Bruno cut. The layoffs will go into effect on Aug. 9.

Walmart said in a statement to KRON4 on Thursday that most of the impacted employees will be able to stay with the company by relocating to its headquarters in Arkansas or another main hub. A Walmart spokesperson said the retail giant is working with these employees to determine a path forward.

Walmart announced the layoffs to employees last week, according to an email acquired by KRON4’s sister station in Arkansas.

“Some parts of our business have made changes that will result in a reduction of several hundred campus roles. While the overall numbers are small in percentage, we are focused on supporting each of our associates affected by these changes,” Walmart Chief People Officer and Executive Vice President Donna Morris said in the email.

In addition to the layoffs, Walmart asked most of its work-from-home employees, as well as associates in Walmart’s Dallas, Atlanta and Toronto offices, to relocate, per Morris’ email. Most employees will be asked to relocate to Walmart’s home office in Bentonville, Ark. but some will be sent to offices in the Bay Area and Hoboken, NJ.

“We have had discussions with associates who were directly impacted by these decisions. We will work closely with them in the coming days and months to navigate the best path forward,” Morris said.
