The more I think about it, you are right. They should be together and not join any alliance unless they are given special status.

How? NDA needs Nitish's support as much as they need CBN's support. Bihar vaallu eppati nundi SS aduguthunnaru. AP vaallu adigithe Nitish kooda demand chesthaadu. And if you have followed Modi Sha politics in last 10 years, you will understand their modus operandi. They can easily poach 15 MPs from opposition parties and ignore CBN and AP completly.
