Such virtuous Karna doesn't know that he shouldn't lie.

Why did he want to compete with arjun at the first place if his only motto is to learn, because he wants to test his strength? Even though he know he is not allowed to compete.

He always looks for something that doesn't belong to him.

even though karna grew up at a low place due to destiny...the devine sun royal blood gushing through his body didn't agree the substandard dominance........Arjunudu ekalavyudi vidyaarjana munde nilabadalekapoyaadu.........

Karna is just a selfish character who wanted to prove something even if it is by means of adharm.

If you call it as blood, destiny. That's fine. 

FYI, arjuna never lost a battle except in battle against mahadev untill Mahabharata completion.He was mightily impressed with eklavya and sad that there are archers better than him. He won against karna in several occasions and the only time karna over powered arjuna for little time is on 17th day of war.
