reddy kaapus are different from present day kaapus. 

During kaakatiya times kaapu was mostly used to refer to reddy subcastes like panta kaapu.

Even today in rayalaseema kaapus are reddies while balijas are referred to as balijas only ,even though they come under kaapu grouping.

Current day kaapus are telaga ,ontari,balija,kaapu,turpu kaapu etc.. since reddies aren't present that much in krishna  district and above ,kaapu is used to refer to these people and reddy there use reddy in caste certificates unlike in rayalaseema.even in telangana a lot of reddies themselves use kaapu.

Reddies are panta ,motati, pedakanti ,pokanati,gone etc...

Although there might be some kaapus who use the title of reddy.

 

I have a theory that all these farming/land owning groups probably belong to one group and the they divided themselves due to some reasons and refer to themselves based on their region ,for example kaapus from kammanaadu are kammas,paakanaadu are paakanati kaapus,velanaadu are velamas etc..

Unlike jaats and rajputs in north india who are genetically different ,all telugu land-owning groups are more or less the same with some minor differences due to degree of intermarrying between their own group like paakanati reddies who score a little different from other groups.
