The Union Budget is likely to include grants for development of eight backward districts of Andhra Pradesh and an overall commitment of about Rs 10,000 crore for Polavaram irrigation project -- two major demands of the Telugu Desam Party, the BJP’s key southern ally.

However, his third major demand, pertaining to support for development of Amaravati as state capital, remains in the pipeline, they said.

“Fiscal support for developing Amravati as state capital depends on an estimate which is yet to be prepared. Once a detailed project report is prepared, this can be quantified," said one of the persons, who did not wish to be identified.

Chief minister Naidu, whose party provides the numerical assurance of 16 members in the Lok Sabha, has been insisting on a financial package for Andhra Pradesh. But even as the budget is likely to provide fiscal support for key projects, it may stop short of a lump sum package, said people in the know.
