I am looking to relocate next year before my oldest starts high school. Is San Diego a good place? Except for the high cost of living.

Any reason for moving before son goes to high school ?

San Diego is a great choice with its excellent schools, beautiful weather, and family-friendly activities. Despite the high cost of living, its quality of life and community make it worth considering.
