US is not only about metros.
There are many rural areas which faces frequent power cuts due to wind. Cutoff from external world due to flooding. And also meant for campers, trekkers in emergency situation.

I get where you’re coming from—it does seem a bit odd seeing emergency food kits at Costco, like they're preparing for something big. But honestly, after a few natural disasters in my area, I started stocking up on things like that. I’ve even added some organic coconut milk powder to my emergency stash. I love it because it’s so convenient and doesn’t take up much space—plus, it’s way better than canned coconut milk, which can sometimes be hit or miss. It’s good to be prepared, even if it feels a little over the top at times.

Winter is coming there could be many storms and outages specially rural areas get disconnected from world like recent Asheville NC area flood and storm disaster..someitmes these are things people take it easy but most important thing needed in case of disaster

even stacking up some canned food also does the job.

also most of the old houses up north east and snow belt areas there is some storage in basement area which is left without insulation and no dry wall which can be used for long term storage.

I also remember watching an American series where it ends they discover huge basement with tons of lights and 100s of food cans for emergency here people are super ultra prepared for catastrophic conditions specially Winter times
