But you still violated the law and you may still liable for fines

They means institute which enforces FEMA rules typically Enforcement Directorate (ED) , So far now I have not heard ED taking normal people into custody .. If you have some personal grudge on your friend who is NRI who bought an agriculture land.  You can complain to ED , there is a separate website for reporting FEMA violation and see the circus..

ee ED kinda ochchevi anni guilty until proven innocent type cases kada appudu baga vachipothadi kada. aina 5-10Cr ki and 100cr ki theda vuntadii kada.

not sure on that. but at this moment don't be stressed too much it is just central Act and state laws are different and hope our state dispute any of these. Chala mandhi vastaru ala ante

Don't worry much bro. Chances of getting notice is very very very rare. Ala ante India lo regular savings kuda maintain cheyyodu but almost andariki vuntayi..this is also same.

Only newbie NRI’s who just started earning money abroad will buy/invest in Indian real estate or mestri’s with bags of unaccounted cash. Not worth to invest in India , if you have no plans to move back.
