A total of 41 individuals were injured and have been transported to various hospitals in Anakapalli and Atchutapuram. CM Naidu has directed that all cases of grievous injury be transferred to hospitals in Hyderabad or Visakhapatnam for advanced treatment.

The death toll from the reactor explosion at Escientia Advanced Sciences Pvt Ltd in Atchutapuram, Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh, has increased to 17, according to officials.

According to Anakapalli District Collector Vijaya Krishnan, the fire broke out at 2:15 pm. “The factory operates with 381 employees in two shifts. The blast occurred during lunch time. Therefore, staff presence was less, Krishnan told PTI, adding that the explosion is suspected to be electricity-related.

The collector confirmed that 13 people trapped inside the facility were rescued.

In response to the tragedy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow and assured support for the victims' families. The Chief Minister is in constant communication with key officials, including the District Collector, Superintendent of Police, Home Minister, and Secretaries of Health, Industry, and Factories.

Escientia Advanced Sciences, which began production in April 2019, specializes in intermediate chemicals and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The facility is situated on a 40-acre site within the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation's (APIIC) multi-product special economic zone (SEZ) in Atchutapuram.
