Truck falls into canal while trying to avoid potholes in Andhra, 7 dead

At least seven people were killed as a lorry driver tried to avoid a pothole and lost control before plunging into a canal in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district.

At least seven people were killed in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district late on Tuesday night. The accident occurred near Devarapalli village when an Eicher truck carrying cashew nuts and eight passengers from Jangreddygudem veered off the road and plunged into a canal.

According to police, the truck driver lost control while trying to avoid a pothole, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Seven people sitting on top of the lorry died on the spot, while one person was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital. The bodies of the victims were shifted to Kovvuru Government Hospital, said Deputy Superintendent of Police G Deva Kumar.
