Indian Origin Foreign National Traveling to India..which visa is correct to apply?

Travel is within 4 weeks so OCI is not an option.

We applied e-Tourist Visa, which was granted in less then 24 hrs..paid $40 USD..

Conditions: Multiple Entry visa, 1 year validity, each stay should not exceed 90 days. This is enough for us as we are staying only 6 weeks.

But I read somewhere  Indian Origin Foreign Nationals SHOULD apply for entry visa but not e-Tourist Visa. Is that correct? Is anyone from DB visited India on e-Tourist visa and denied?

Please enlighten me…

Yes, you can go to India with an e-Visa, but there are some restrictions:

  • Entry and exit
You can enter India through 24 designated airports and 3 designated seaports, but you can exit from any authorized Immigration Check Post (ICP) in India.

  • Visa categories
There are five types of e-Visas: e-Tourist Visa, e-Business Visa, e-Medical Visa, e-Medical Attendant Visa, and e-Conference Visa.

  • Validity
The e-Visa is valid for 30 days, one year, or five years, depending on the type of visa.

  • Number of visits
You can't stay in India for more than 180 days in a calendar year on an e-Visa or regular paper Tourist Visa.

  • Application
You can apply for an e-Visa online and expect to receive your entry documents by email within four days.

  • Processing time
It can take up to five business days to process your visa after the Consulate receives your application.

4.2. Entry visa:

  • Persons of Indian origin holding foreign passport, their spouses and children must apply for Entry visa to visit India. Foreign spouse of an Indian national is also eligible for Entry visa.
  • In case applicant was an Indian national before, proof of renunciation of Indian citizenship in the form of Indian Citizenship Renunciation / Surrender Certificate alongwith copy of cancelled passport is required to be attached, else the application will be returned for want of this document.
