If you intend to move to a new place in retirement, not a good option. You will have to make new friends again.

However, if you intend to move to a new place, work for some years and retire there, here's the criteria and places.

Criteria -

  • Good Work Opportunites (during working years)
  • Less state tax or no tax
  • Growing desi community (not saturated places like NJ, CA, Dallas)
  • Parks. Communities with Good Schools have good parks.
  • Decent Weather based on your preferences
  • Less crime rate.
  • Entertainment and Dining.
  • If you are into sports, a city that has a major sports team like NFL, NBA, MLB.

Places

  • NC - Seems decent from all aspects.
  • TX - Except weather, there are some decent options.
  • CA - May be northern CA like Roseville, Rocklin, Folsom or LA (Simi Valley)

I will leave it to others to chime in with other places.

No .. The critiria you put in bold is very essential.

Desi community - You need your friends who grow old with you. It's not just for kids. Parks for usual timepass in evenings not just for kids.

Sports Team - This is the biggest time pass after retirement.

Also if the city has good work opportunities, chances are that kids live nearby to you ..
