With the amount of people moving to US at this rate, I don't think demand would ever go down. It all boils down to does AI want to keep the market share or will it let other airline grab the market share in the same route with a direct flight. But that's also up to politics.

I heard so many complaints with older aircraft of AI that they better plan all the new routes with newer planes.

These old ones won't cut it.

I read an article couple months back why Dallas - Hyd non-stop is not economical for Air India ani....primary reason is not much business/first class passengers. According to their research, majority of passenger who prefer AI is aged parents or moms with kids....and these type of passengers usually prefer flying in economy class. Anduke AI might have decided to have stop over in Delhi so that they can find corporate bookings shelling out huge money for business/first class. 

Long haul is not going to be an issue since AI has ordered brand new Airbus/Boeing flights and these new ones can easily handle 15hrs+ journey. 

Dallas/Chicago etc non-stop to B'lore possible since B'lore ki tech company executives heavy flow untadi and business/1st class will be occupied.

I’ve always wondered why certain routes don’t get direct flights, and your point about Air India’s strategy makes sense. It seems like they’re balancing demand for affordable economy class travel with the need for more lucrative first-class seats.
