andhra_jp
Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya of Telangana High Court on Tuesday imposed costs on a petitioner Sararapu Srisailam, who filed a writ petition seeking to stall release of Telugu film Pushpa-2, observing that the petition was based on assumption that the film would promote a bad message by eulogising a smuggler. The judge said the costs would be specified soon and they should be delivered to organisations that work for the welfare of trafficked women and children. The petitioner’s counsel contended that since the first film Pushpa-1 attempted to show a smuggler of red sanders wood logs as hero, the second in the series Pushpa-2 was also likely to convey a false message to the audience and the society. The judge, however, observed that the petitioner’s contentions were based on mere assumptions. He had no other basis to substantiate his apprehensions except the trailer released by the movie makers. The petitioner also approached the court in the last minute, just three days ahead of the film’s release. This raised doubts over the intentions of the petitioner. Deputy Solicitor General of India Gadi Praveen Kumar said the petitioner had no locus standi to stall the release of the movie. The authorities of the Film Certification Board had examined the movie and issued certificates for its release. In a separate matter, Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the HC declined to pass orders to stop the enhanced prices of the tickets to watch the film Pushpa-2. The petition was adjourned to December 17 for next hearing.
