The Y-Y PARADOX

Named after two doctors yagnik from India and Yudkin both have identical body mass index (BMI) of 22 but on x-ray absorptiometry used to detect fat component in individuals yagnik has far more body fat than Yudkin

gr1_lrg.jpg

Thus Yagnik is more risk for coronary heart disease than Yudkin

So BMI is poor indicator of health

the person can look thin but still may have more fat percentage in the body and has more risk of heart disease and obesity ,diabetes etc

Bmi is not a good measure, indians will have less bmi than Europeans because shitty diet and lifestyle which leads to having less muscle mass.my bmi is 26 and a bit but that's because I have more muscle mass, but it's overweight according to bmi index .i look slimmer than people with less bmi than 24 with jelly bellies.

I don't think he has 9% bodyfat ,it's bodybuilders in season level of bodyfat.

20% is not that high .but fit makes usually have sub 20% bodyfat and fit females have sub 25% bodyfat.

That's the whole point that is why we measure waist to hip ratio in our hospital which is very good indicator atleast better than BMI

He looks pretty old to be having 9% bodyfat ,even if you assume has 9% bodyfat ,it's not even healthy. recommended level of body fat for males over 40 starts from 11% to 22%.

So the article is wrong either way.

Even waist to hip ratio can be misled because of varying bone structure.but is a better indicator than bmi

9% can't be achieved at his age unless he is aiming for a bodybuilding competition or some CrossFit guy.

It's the best physical examination available to date for assessment of fat percentage

I know somethings about human body as I am into fitness.

Do you even know about 9% bodyfat looks like?bodybuilders at their peak have sub 10% bodyfat.

Even actors with six pack have higher than 10% bodyfat.

Whr is most efficient to measure health of a person but not the best physical way for fat percentage

Skinfold Calipers are usually used in fitness .you can't measure fat in other areas using whr.but problem with calipers is they can't measure visceral fat,but it's okay in fitness as most people don't carry much visceral fat.
