Its like saying, I will get a job with less salary so that I can pay less taxes.

I partially disagree with your statement. Like an ETF & stock portfolios, there is a place for an Income portfolio. It's proper financial planning and not just retirement planning.

For me, when one is earning a salary and also taxed 20% on 8-10% return on capital, I don't think Income portfolio makes sense.

I do Income, stocks, ETFs, etc. I interchange between stocks and income portfolios based on market conditions and my risk appetite.

i have good enuf portfolio (50% of my overall portfolio in income) which I sold recently since I saw more value in stocks. But I do believe S&P will fall more this year. Will book some profits in stocks and move them back to income.

Different people, different goals.
I like cash flows in my accounts and move money between stoxks and income portfolios based on opportunity. I have different brokerage accounts each serving different purpose.

Is it company sponsored or converted to IRA?
Company sponsored ayithe they won’t let you.

However you can invest in the index funds. Start moving money into health care and technology funds with every S&P500 drop. Once done, don’t move it.
Check what’s available with your 401k.

You can convert wife 401k to an IRA and build income portfolios there.
Alternatively you can create a stock account with fidelity and it’s just like buying and selling stocks. Just because these funds give monthly div, I call them income portfolio.

You should talk to one of your friends with stock experience.

Robinhood won’t let you buy some securities. JEPI and JEPQ it does. pDI/GOF they don’t. I have Webull but never tried buying those there.

May be you can check

Start with a SIP. Pick top 5 - PDI, GOF and SVOL, JEPQ and JEPI and do $100 each or more or less. Weekly or monthly based on your convenience.

Be prepared to add more SVOL in bulk when S&P drops further.

Likewise PDI add in bulk when price is < $17.

I have added a 1-yr chart and Ex-Div dates to the sheet.

My 2 cents:

if you are in your middle age, play safe dont buy directly the stocks, but go with ETFs (low expense ratio)

I am doing 50% each SIP  on SCHD (with DRIP) and SCHG (for growth).

Let it compound and see the magic in 10 yrs -15 or 20 yrs later.
