CHICAGO (WLS) -- A DePaul University student who was slated to graduate this June had his visa terminated last week and now, he's suing the Trump administration to get it back.

Vishnu Nali had his F-1 student visa terminated last Tuesday, along with other students across the country, according to a complaint filed on Friday in federal court against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Nali has been studying business analytics towards earning his master's degree from DePaul University, with his graduation scheduled for June 2025.

According to the complaint, Nali's student visa was terminated after he was arrested last year for what his attorney calls "a minor shoplifting offense."

A Chicago police report states Nali was arrested after he was caught stealing a pair of jeans Nike shoes and a shirt from a department store.

Prosecutors later dropped the charges against Nali.

While I tend to agree with you based on my perception of procedures followed in the USA, I would also like to know the entire story before I conclusively say that.

More importantly, the world runs on law, not on ethics. If he committed a crime, why did Prosecution drop the charges? Once dropped, he is not longer a criminal. He has the right to win the suing case if it is for money he spent for unrealized degree. But the government also has the right to revoke his visa up to their discretion. The government should let him attain his degree and then choose to not support him further if that is what it wants.
