TDP releases its draft manifesto

Hyderabad (PTI): With Andhra Pradesh assembly polls scheduled in April, the TDP on Thursday released its draft manifesto, promising an "innovative" cash transfer scheme at the rate of Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 per month and free colour television sets for families living below the poverty line.

Releasing the document at the party's state headquarters here, TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu said, "A sum of Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 will be transferred directly every month to the bank accounts of the selected beneficiaries under the Cash Transfer Scheme (CTS)."

"The amount will vary depending on the economic status and size of the family which will be regarded as a beneficiary unit. The CTS, which will be a family-centric scheme, will economically and socially empower the poorest of the poor, poor and the middle-class families," he said.

The amount would be transferred directly to the beneficiaries accounts in the name of a female member of the family, the former chief minister said.

The scheme would have a major impact in improving the quality of life of the beneficiaries, Naidu said. Following the DMK's model in Tamil Nadu, the TDP too announced it would distribute colour televisions to poor families in Andhra Pradesh.
