Indian Forces Foil Kashmiri Infiltrators

[color=#000000][font=helvetica, arial][size=3][left]JAMMU, India, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- The Indian army reports that Pakistan's armed forces committed their third cease-fire violation this month in Jammu and Kashmir.[/left][/size][/font][/color][/left][color=#000000][font=helvetica, arial][size=3][left]The incidents occurred Dec. 5, 14 and Thursday, with the last occurring in Jammu's Poonch district Krishna Ghati sector.[/left][/size][/font][/color][/left][color=#000000][font=helvetica, arial][size=3][left]An official source said, "Around midnight, (soldiers) deployed along the Line of Control foiled a major infiltration bid in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district by pushing the armed infiltrators back into the Pakistan territory," the Pioneer Online reported Friday.[/left][/size][/font][/color][/left][color=#000000][font=helvetica, arial][size=3][left]Indian Ministry of Defense spokesman S.N. Acharya confirmed the incident, labeling it an "unprovoked cease-fire violation."[/left][/size][/font][/color][/left][color=#000000][font=helvetica, arial][size=3][left]He said both sides exchanged small arms fire intermittently for more than two hours, ending about 2 a.m., Acharya said the "movement of suspected infiltrators" set off the battle.[/left][/size][/font][/color][/left][color=#000000][font=helvetica, arial][size=3][left]He claimed the Pakistani army fired 700-800 rounds, targeting forward Indian posts, in support of the infiltrators.[/left][/size][/font][/color][/left][color=#000000][font=helvetica, arial][size=3][left]India and Pakistan have disputed the sovereignty of Jammu and Kashmir since 1947.[/left][/size][/font][/color][/left]
