Mom And Daughter Reunited After 77 Years

She was a 16-year-old dairy maid when she was raped. She was sent off to a Lutheran home for pregnant girls to have the baby. At 17, she gave birth and named her baby Betty Jane. The baby was adopted by an Iowa pastor who raised it as his own. [url="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2081442/Minka-Disbrow-celebrates-100th-birthday-daughter-gave-adoption.html"]Daily Mail[/url] reports Disbrow later married a fruit salesman and had two children but never told them they have a sibling who had been giving up for adoption. But Disbrow never forgot about her daughter.
According to [url="http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/south-dakota-woman-raped-a-teen-reunited-long-lost-daughter-77-years-article-1.999974?localLinksEnabled=false"]NY Daily News[/url], for years Disbrow wrote letters to the Lutheran home where she had the baby, begging for news of her daughter. The agency replied on a number of occasions but after there was a change in management replies to her inquiries stopped. But on May 22, 2006, when Disbrow was 94, she offered a prayer: “Lord, if you would just let me see Betty Jane, I won’t bother her, I promise. I just want to see her before I die.”
The baby Disbrow named Betty Jane was raised in Iowa as Ruth Lee. While Disbrow was praying to see her daughter, Ruth also was trying to find her biological mother. Lee's son Brian, began searching for his mother's biological family when doctors asked for the family's medical history. He petitioned a court in South Dakota for his mother's adoption records. He found written records of the sexual assault on his grandmother and letters she had written asking about her baby. He did an online search for Disbrow's name and found a phone listing. Brian, 54, said: "I was looking for somebody I thought was probably not living."
Disbrow, according to[url="http://www.boston.com/community/moms/articles/2012/01/03/mom_reunites_with_biological_child_77_years_later/"] AP[/url], soon received a phone call from her grandson, Ruth Lee's son, asking if she wanted to be reunited with her daughter now living in Wisconsin. Disbrow said her knees buckled at the news. After phone call contacts, Ruth Lee and her son Brian Lee, flew to California and met Disbrow in her apartment.
Disbrow's daughter, 65-year-old Dianna Huhn, said she had never seen her mom so happy. Disbrow had to reveal the story of how she and three of her co-workers, all teenage milk maids, were attacked by three men while picnicking close to a lake. In-spite of the tragic story the meeting was joyful.
Disbrow learned that Ruth Lee had married and had six children of her own, and one of them was a NASA astronaut Mark Lee, who had gone to space four times.
When daughter and mom met after 77 years, everyone remarked about the striking resemblance. Ruth Lee said: “It has been such a surreal, amazing experience that I still think sometimes that I will wake up and it will just be a beautiful dream...It was like we’d known each other all our lives."
Disbrow said: “It was like we never parted."[/left][/font][/color][/left]
