Apple Confirms Iphone 4S Launch In China And 21 Other Markets On Jan13

Apple [url="http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2012/01/04iPhone-4S-Arrives-in-China-on-January-13.html"]just issued[/url] a press release confirming the availability of iPhone 4S in China and 21 other markets starting Friday, Jan. 13. This comes just over a week after [url="http://9to5mac.com/2011/12/27/iphone-4s-gains-necessary-china-certification-january-launch-expected-for-mainland/"]the device received necessary certifications[/url] from the Ministry of Industry and Information and Technnology of China.[/size][/font][/color][color=#000000][font=Georgia, Times, serif][size=4]
Apple CEO Tim Cook said this about the announcement in a statement earlier today:[/size][/font][/color][indent][font=Georgia, Times, serif][size=4]
“Customer response to our products in China has been off the charts. With the launch in China next week, iPhone 4S will be available in over 90 countries making this our fastest iPhone rollout ever.”[/size][/font][/indent][color=#000000][font=Georgia, Times, serif][size=4]
All other markets gaining access to the iPhone 4S beginning Jan. 13 include: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon, Cayman Islands, Central African Republic, China, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Grenada, Guam, Guinea Conakry, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos and Uganda.[/size][/font][/color][color=#000000][font=Georgia, Times, serif][size=4]
Although there is no indication of carriers in the press release, the country’s third-largest carrier China Unicom is currently the sole provider of the iPhone in China. Apple has not confirmed whether they plan on expanding carriers to reach an untapped market outside China Unicom of[url="http://9to5mac.com/2011/09/05/tired-of-waiting-chinese-carriers-undercut-iphone-substantially-with-own-handsets/"]approximately 1.33 billion people[/url]. As of their [url="http://9to5mac.com/2011/07/19/apple-q3-2011-earnings-call-live-blog/"]latest earnings call[/url], CEO Tim Cook announced $3.8 billion of sales in China for the June quarter, which is a six-fold increase from the year-ago quarter and it is 13.3-percent of Apple’s entire business by revenue.
