Vice-Admiral Anurag Gopalan Thapliyal, Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala, has been appointed the Chief of Personnel (COP) of the Navy.[/font][/color][color=#3B3A39][font=Georgia,]
The Vice-Admiral, who steered the academy in its initial years into a formidable military training establishment, would now be responsible for the entire gamut of human resources development of the Navy, a defence press release said.[/font][/color][color=#3B3A39][font=Georgia,]
Commissioned into the Navy in July 1977, the Vice-Admiral specialised in navigation and direction. He has commanded the Eastern Fleet, destroyer INS Mysore, stealth frigate INS Tabar, missile corvette INS Khukri and anti-submarine patrol vessel INS Ajay.[/font][/color][color=#3B3A39][font=Georgia,]
Vice-Admiral Thapliyal has also worked as the Chief of Staff of the Eastern Naval Command, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Information Warfare Operations and as the Director of Maritime Warfare Centre, Visakhapatnam. An alumnus of the Naval War College at New Port in the United States and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, the Vice-Admiral was decorated with Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) on the Republic Day last year.[/font][/color]
