[size=4]The interior roads leading up to their native village in lower Kandi area were covered with snow and no other mode of transport was available to shift her safely to a nearby hospital. Considering harsh weather conditions and the continuous deteriorating condition of his wife, Master Khaliq Hussain delivered an emergency message to the nearby Army unit to rescue his wife without wasting more time.[/size][/font][/color][color=#333333][font=Georgia, Cambria,]

[size=4]After struggling for long hours, the jawans of the Indian Army shifted Naseem Akhtar, draped in woollen blanket, to the nearby army ambulance unit.[/size][/font][/color][color=#333333][font=Georgia, Cambria,]
[size=4]The jawans had no choice but to carry her on the traditional ‘cot’ on their shoulders through the snow covered fields.[/size][/font][/color][color=#333333][font=Georgia, Cambria,]
[size=4]The hard work of the jawans paid off as a team of army doctors travelling with the ambulance unit helped Naseem Akhtar deliver her third baby after some time.[/size][/font][/color][color=#333333][font=Georgia, Cambria,]
[size=4]Both Naseem and Master Khaliq Hussain heaved a sigh of relief as their second issue had died at the time of delivery. As her condition improved Naseem was shifted to the district hospital in Kotranka and was later discharged on January 9.[/size][/font][/color][color=#333333][font=Georgia, Cambria,]
[size=4]Army spokesman of the Nagrotra based 16 corps headquarters told The Pioneer, for last two days wherever required the Army formations in remote and inaccessible areas of the State are helping the civil administration to clear the snow packed roads and coming to the rescue of the local residents. “Our men and machinery are on the job and have also helped the State Government machinery clear the blockades on several interior roads and even on the national highway and near Jawahar tunnel. We are also trying to distribute medicines and food packets to the local residents,” the spokesman said.[/size][/font][/color][color=#333333][font=Georgia, Cambria,]
[size=4]Meanwhile, after the power lines to the Kashmir valley were restored State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday visited Doda, Kishtwar and Bhaderwah to take stock of the essential public services disrupted by the heavy snowfall.[/size][/font][/color]
