The Malad police have now forwarded a request to senior police officials to issue a red corner notice against her husband, who is a businessman based in the US.

According to the Malad police, the airhostess, who worked for a private US airline, had married Ashish Sardar (37) eight years ago, and then settled in the US.

The complainant said that being a businessman, Sardar frequented pubs and discos for official as well as recreational purposes. About four years back, he had allegedly proposed the idea of swapping wives with a friend, but the woman refused to comply. She even left Sardar, and chose to live in separate lodgings. Cops from the Malad police station said that after the separation, Sardar began calling her frequently, speaking lewdly and making slurs on her character. The complainant claimed that she had even approached the police in the US, but they failed to take any action against her estranged husband.

Unable to deal with his offensive overtures, the complainant returned to Mumbai last month, to the security of her mother's home near Orlem church in Malad (West).

But much to her dismay, his phone calls followed her all the way to India. Sardar soon starting making international phone calls to her, passing offensive remarks, and calling her a 'prostitute'. It is then that the complainant approached the Malad police to register a complaint against Sardar.

"We have registered a case against Sardar for threatening and harassing his wife. The accused, however, is based in the US, so we have issued a red corner notice against him, so we can nab him and record his statement the moment he returns to India," said API Sunil Shinde from the Malad police station.
