You can put any amount in each slot. The restriction is not the size of RAM card, but whether its DDR, DDR2 or DDR3. Verify that and put the appropriate kind. Secondly remember if your computer is a 32 bit then it won't accept RAM more than 4 GB. The computer will work but it won't take more than 4 Gig.
