It's distinctly a Pawan Kalyan film made for the hero by a director who seems to be in awe of him.

Venkatrathnam Naidu (Pawan Kalyan), an avid watcher of Sholay [Images ], loves the villain in it Gabbar Singh (played by Amjad Khan [Images ]) and so called himself by that name when he was young (played by Akash, Puri Jagannath's son).

His father died when he was three years old and his mother (played by Suhasini) marries Nagineedu who has an infant son.

Gabbar Singh grows up, becomes a cop and returns to his village on a posting. Here he encounters Siddappa Naidu (Abhimanyu Singh) who harasses the villagers and commits various atrocities.

Essentially the film is about the struggle between Gabbar Singh and Siddappa Naidu. The love interest is provided by Gabbar falling in love with Bhagyalakshmi (Shruti Haasan [ Images ]).

The second half tends to drag with the addition of scenes like the antakshari in the police station (unimaginable in reality). In fact, there is quite a bit of cinematic licence in the way the police are depicted.

Bhagyalakshmi's character is not so well etched and neither is Ajay's (who plays Gabbar's younger brother).

The dialogues have punch, though the censors have been busy cutting out bits. There a bit too much violence. The climax could have been tackled better.

Since the film rides on Pawan Kalyan it was imperative for him to perform well. He has done a good job.

Though Shruti Haasan didn't have much of a role, she has left her mark. Abhimanyu Singh played an impactful Siddappa Naidu though he was pretty sober compared to his previous baddie roles.

The role Tanikella Bharani plays was not suited to an artiste of his calibre. Brahmanandam as Recovery Ranjith was effective in breaking the monotony. So was Ali as Samba. Nagineedu and Suhasini had minor roles which they carried off well.

Devisprasad's music was in tune with the story. The film scored well on the technical front.

Increasingly films are being made in Telugu keeping the hero's image and fans in mind. Gabbar Singh is one such, catering to the fans of the hero and only incidentally to the general audience.

Entertaining it may be, but Gabbar Singh is filled with violence and some vulgarity and not meant for the very young audience.

Pawan Kalyan towers over everything else. It’s a tailor made role that carries the movie forward. His body language and dialogue delivery take the cake. The music score by Devi Sri Prasad stands out and enhances the whole experience. The action sequences also have been well choreographed. The movie sets a new benchmark as far as “paisa vasool” goes.
The Hindu
The film is indulgent. The overdose of Pawan Kalyan’s swagger and slow-motion shots slacken the pace. At some point in the film, you wonder if there’s no room for subtleties as dialogue renditions remain over the top. But despite its shortcomings, Gabbar Singh is a fun ride. After the initial few minutes, you stop comparing Gabbar with Chulbul Pandey and the film with Dabangg. Therein lies its success.
Deccan Chronicle
Although Pawan carries the film entirely on his shoulders, there is nothing to write home about his onscreen chemistry with Shruti. She is wasted in a role where she has little to do apart from smiling and looking gorgeous. The much-hyped item number Kevvu Keka was a chartbuster, but onscreen it is a big let-down despite Malaika.
Sify
Pawan Kalyan rocks in and as Gabbar Singh. After Kushi, this particular role can be seen as the best in his career. His comedy timing is superb, coupled with mass stunts and dances. Gabbar Singh seems to be tailor made for Pawan Kalyan. The director did follow the original script of Dabangg in most sequences, but gave more importance to comedy. The first half is filled with mass masala, while the second half turns hackneyed, but the drawback is instantly overcome thanks to the comedy.

Gabbar Singh is the actually the remake of Dabangg but Harish Shankar had made several changes to it in the name of nativity. The movie has good comedy, superb dialogues and some very entertaining episodes from Pawan. This one will be a genuine hit, registering repeat audience for sure. Finally, GabbarSingh is going to be the winner of this summer.Gabbar Singh Movie Entertains Everyone go and Watch it.
Deccan Herald
It’s Pawan Kalyan all the way, who fights and mouths choicest dialogues. Shruti Hassan looks gorgeous as the petite village belle. She proves her talent, despite being consigned to a secondary role. Suffice to say Gabbar Singh is strictly for Pawan Kalyan’s loyals.
Idlebrain
I haven’t liked Pawan Kalyan’s movies post Kushi as he didn’t try to do appealing films to general crowds (Jalsa was a slight abberation). Gabbar Singh is one film I liked after Kushi. It doesn’t mean that I am completely satisfied, but it’s good. There are a few drawbacks in the movie, but Pawan Kalyan made sure that he is the sole reason for you to watch the movie and get entertained.
123telugu
Pawan Kalyan’s fans will have a very enjoyable time while watching Gabbar Singh. The movie has good comedy, superb dialogues and some very entertaining episodes from Pawan. A faster second half and a better climax block would have really elevated the film. Still, the sheer brilliance of the first half and a sterling performance from Pawan make Gabbar Singh a solidly entertaining watch. Thumbs up for Gabbar Singh.
IndiaGlitz
All in all, GS is a treat to Pawan’s fans, but it has not been made for the first week audience alone. This one will be a genuine hit, registering repeat audience for sure.
Greatandhra
While there are many counters and punch lines which must be enjoyed in the theatres only, the film stands as a true example for an apt formula film which will fill the stomach of the commercial summer audience. At the box office, since there is nobody around for the next two weeks, the film will register thumping collections. And given the impact of songs like ‘Kevvu Keka’ and ‘Akasam Ammayaithe..’ the chances of repeat audience is also high. We could be looking at a registered blockbuster here.
Teluguone
Pawan Kalyan unleashes his box office stamina and has excelled with incredible energy levels in this film. He showed his commitment in dances, diction, action scenes and delivered an amazing performance. Recommended for Pawan Kalyan’s stellar performance and Devi Sri Prasad’s fantastic music.
Oneindia
Undoubtedly Pawan Kalyan fans will enjoy the film as he delights his fans with comedy and punchy dialogues. Moreover, many of the action scenes would attract the front benchers. The film would definitely go well with ‘B’ and ‘C’ centres. The film would definitely fill the coffers of the producer.
