Hyderabad, May 17: In a major relief to the Sakshi group of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the High Court has stayed the operation of the GO issued by the government stopping advertisements to Sakshi newspaper and Television.

The High Court, which admitted a petition by the Jagati group stayed the operation of GO No. 2097, stopping government advertisements for the Sakshi group and directed the government to file its counter by June 16. The court posted further hearing of the petition by Sakshi group challenging stopping of advertisements to May 22 for further hearing.

It may be recalled that Sakshi’s petition challenging the government order earlier in the CBI special court was rejected. Challenging the decision, Sakshi has filed petition in the High Court.

Earlier in the day, lawyers of the Jagati Publications argued in the High Court that the government has taken a decision to suspend advertisements to Sakshi, just based on the CBI charge-sheet and not on facts. They contended that stopping of advertisement was against public interest and fundamental rights. They argued that it was improper to stop the advertisements, though the media had not violated any of the guidelines set by the government. They contended that the government was trying to punish the Sakshi group even before courts had decided to do so.

Meanwhile, the CBI special court told the CBI that it could give a copy of the first charge-sheet against Jagan to the Enforcement Directorate.

It may be recalled that the Enforcement Directorate, which also started investigating into charges of money laundering against Jagan, has asked the CBI for a copy of its first charge-sheet that was taken cognizance of, by the trial court. The ED also filed a petition in the trial court. CBI informed the court that it had no objection to giving a copy of the charge-sheet to ED. With this, CBI court has directed that ED be given the copy.
