department movie dobbindi

Inspector Mahadev Bhosle (Sanjay Dutt) creates a Department to battle underworld mafia and ropes in suspended cop Shivnarayan (Rana). On the other hand there is a weak and a screaming don Vijay Raaz with angry and dissatisfied followers Nasser (Shalini) and DK (Abhimanyu Singh) for company. Don turned politician Sarjerao Gaikwad (AB) and Bhosle have their own agendas while the rest are used as pawns in the power struggle within the police department.

Fifteen minutes into the film and you know what to expect from such a lame plot, inept direction and feeble performances. While it's pointless to discuss the film, let's see what the actors did in front of the Canon EOS 5D camera.

Rana Daggubati? Boss..steady, hilo math, hason math! As long as he doesn't act, the poor man's Abhishek is fine. This role is customised for him, grim, serious where half the time he is running and shooting and for the acting chops he needs to get an acupuncture done or see charming uncle Venky's first film for reference, we are not asking for much. His voice is fabulous though and looks good in long shots with glares on. Lakshmi Manchu parrots her lines, dubbing doesn't help and shows more forehead than her talent, she should have waited for a better Hindi debut as she is capable of dominating the show.

Madhushalini was the one everyone wanted to see but she disappoints in a confused role of a spirited woman who weeps because she is reminded of her sexuality; All she does is relish her Kulfi, blow smoke into Abhimanyu Singh's mouth and give him gyan, yes do carry home only the three dots she sports. Sadly she and Singh make an odd pair, Singh doesn't get projected as a man enough, is pushed by Madhushalini and keeps gloating at their super pairing with which he thinks can achieve the world.

We are cursed to have men as item dancers, the other day we saw a certain Kondeti and now the largesse of Acharya cascading the screen. Nathalia? RGV shows what a rogue he is, he uses the camera like a man who hasn't seen food for months, her dance movements are vulgar. There is one scene where we go round and round with the camera at the hospital when Rana and Anjana Sukhani, are talking to each other.

Amitabh Bachchan does his regular mechanical role that we have seen in umpteen films, instead of watching him one's attention is more on the tinkling bell tied to his arm. Sanjay Dutt has very very brief good moments but on the whole by the time you step out of the hall, there is nothing you would want to remember. Department has a plot where people do illegal kaam in a legal way and legal kaam in an illegal way.

Finally, we are left to wonder whether Ram Gopal Varma used the camera for the story or the story for the camera! As his filmi Factory gets condensed to a mere department, the audience fails to understand the rogue methodology..and when an elephant becomes a rogue, shoot it, before it tramples you.
