Senior Database Engineer


Job Description
This position has responsibilities in both design/development of new site features and operational DBA activities.  Activities will range from database design and modeling through development of DDL, data management processes and query optimization.
Experience
Typically candidates will have a minimum of 3 years experience of professional database design and development experience.  Day-to-day activities will be varied, and a broad background in schema design, reporting, data management (data merging and de-duping), SQL query optimization and operational database best practices are essential.  You will be responsible for interacting with Product Management directly to understand requirements and with the server engineering team to coordinate the implementation.
Required Skills
All of the following skills are required for consideration:
• Hands-on Data Modeling, including logical and physical (3-5 years)
• Advanced SQL skills (including stored procedures) - MySQL preferred (3-5 years)
• Hands-on programming skills in one or more of the following: PHP, Perl, *nix shell, Java, C++ (3-5 years)
• Hands-on OLTP database design expertise - MySQL preferred (2+ years)
Candidates must also be proficient in one or more of the following areas:
• Exposure to "NoSQL" data solutions, e.g. memcached, couchDB, or Redis
• Experience developing data movement & transformation processes on an ETL platform, e.g., Informatica, Talend
• SOA development experience
• Exposure to/familiar with MapReduce
• Configuration and programming with Lucene/Solr
• Experience with Agile development, SCRUM development experience preferred
• Experience with LAMP configuration and management
• Experience with other dynamic languages like Ruby and Python
Education
Minimum of BS in Computer Science
