Gone are the days when film buffs used to go to Vijayawada to watch their favourite flicks to avoid choked movie halls.

Movie goers in the town now have the new digital cinema experience after majority of cinemas have gone in for a complete makeover.

Most of the 22 movie halls in the town have now been air-conditioned and installed with state-of-the-art digital projection systems providing a visual treat to movie goers. Popular and old movie halls like Jyothi Mahal, now renamed as Siva Cinema, Hollywood and Bollywood Cinema, Naaz theatre and Krishna Mahal have now gone for a digital makeover. The movie halls provide better seating facilities with ample leg room.

“We have completely renovated Hari Hara Mahal and installed the Christie projection system in the two screens in 2012. We are the only movie hall to offer 3-D projection facility in the town,” said Hari Hara Cinemas proprietor Vasireddy Pramod.

The digital projection technology provides a seamless viewing experience and cuts down the cumbersome processes involved in conventional projection using reel.

Easy handling

Says Alla Venkat Nagarjuna Reddy, who manages Siva Hall: “Besides providing quality digital experience with crystal clear visuals and sound, the technology has made handling easy and has done away with high costs of film prints.” Avid movie watchers do not complain. “Tickets are pricey, but we do not mind as we enjoy the digital cinema experience,” says P. Venkata Reddy.
