Houston, TX — There was a major accident reported in the news this weekend that claimed 4 people had died on Sunday night after their car was hit by an alleged drunk taxi driver. Police said that the four people were later identified as Devendraprasad Patel, Kokila Patel, Ansuyaben Patel & Jayanthilal Bhatt – all of whom were in their 60′s to 80′s.
The driver who was crashed into their car was identified as Million Zeghergis and he was arrested on four counts of intoxication manslaughter. Police said that the accident happened in West Houston, at the intersection of Beechnut and Synott Road.
Devendraprasad Patel was driving a Honda Civic with three others riding as passengers: Ansuyaben Patel, Kokila Patel, and Jayanthilal Bhatt. Million Zeghergis was driving a taxi van for Champions Town Car, which is a taxi service for the Houston area.
At the intersection of Beechnut and Synott, Zeghergis’s van ran a red light and crashed into the Patel’s Honda Civic.
The accident killed all four people in the Honda immediately and injured a fifth person, though it’s not clear which car they were in. Zeghergis was taken into custody by HPD officers after he apparently failed a field sobriety test. He was later charged with intoxication manslaughter (4 counts) and didn’t suffer any injuries.
