I agree with ACCUMAN.

I stayed in USA 2.5 yrs out of my  6 yrs valid H1B and decided to move to Canada after i got my PR as i found doing the waiting game and biting my finger nails contemplating whats gonna happen to my status / years of hardwork in USA and my career if i dont get my GC or worse inability to go to INDIA and see your loved ones for special ocassions or unfortunate deaths is far more worse.

I moved here in 2011 and have not looked back. Though honestly there were times when i wanted to be back in USA(for work purposes), I gave up ideas to come there and settle down.

yes Canada is not that great as USA

Canada doesnt offer multitude of opportunities like USA

Canada may not offer the pride USA does to you (which i dont agree)

As someone posted, tax is 30%, living expenses are expensive but they aren't crazy. You still make a decent living out of your career. Car insurance is expensive yes when compared to USA, but that gentleman who pointed this out should have also noted that the minimum liability is 1 Million vs $25k or the meagre $50k standard liability in the USA. Something worse happens and you're screwed for life in the USA

Fantastic parameter to compare is the Health Insurance. USA - you pay a fortune for it when you start having a family vs Canada (You technically pay nothing except for medicines)

To me health of the family is an important parameter in the longer run.

Not to speak of the low crime rate, it is the lowest in the North America region atleast i can speak of. We dont really worry about safety as guns are not permitted. There were days when we roamed in downtown toronto up late nights and early mornings and never had an incident (ofcourse i cant say no crime will ever happen, but the chances of you getting involved in or being a victim of one is very slim)

I am happily a Canadian Citizen now and i can come and work in the USA if i wish to but i dont (atleast for now) as i am happy(more happy) than i was in the USA. (used to work for Indian IT companies and work like a dog. Now i command where i want to work and who i want to work for and when i want to work for. You cant beat that feeling, can you?)

But beware, Canada is closing its doors soon as its tighteining its grip on immigration.

Good Luck...

If you decide on coming to Canada...Good for you. If you didnt, Good for people like me :) Less comptetion anyways.

But Hearty wishes if you decided to come here because you definitely didnt make a bad choice.

LOL

U said you landed in Canada in 2011 and how come you have become eligible to apply even for citizenship ..leave alone the 2 yrs processing  time (till oath and citizenship certificate) ????

I said i landed in 2011 not 'applied'

Eligibility to apply for becoming Canadian Citizen is to reside in canada for 3 yrs out of 5 yrs preceeding from the date of 'application' to become canadian citizen.

So stayed in canada from Aug 2011 to Oct 2014. Applied in Oct and got my citizenship earlier this month. (Processing now takes 5-6 months. Dont always go by the book of 2 yrs timeline posted on CIC website). You look like you dont do lot of research on your self and just rely on someones word or the book of rules)

Now i guess thats enough detail for you to keep quiet. :)

I think the time needed to be in Canada has increased from three years of residency within a four year period (1095/1460) to four years of residency within a six year period (1460/2190).  To be eligible to apply for citizenship an individual must have been physically present in Canada for 1460 days within a six year window.

This new rule has come into effect from August 2014  and you said that you applied in Oct 2014....!

You have not completed 4 yrs stay by Oct 2014

again as i said you have not 'read' the full detail of the new law. The Bill C24 has passed in the parliament and it contains various provisions pertaining to the citizenship and immigration laws of Canada and the new rule of staying in canada for 4 yrs out of 6 yrs is one.

The reality is this particular rule hasn't taken effect. It will not until this year Jun or July. Read this article

Look out for quick facts section -> 2nd bullet point last line.

Trust this will clear all the confusion you have been having about canadian citizenship. If you still need more info, watch out for citizenship sub forum of www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/citizenship-b12.0/

Bro, Thanks for coming out and sharing your invaluable experiences about Canada. I am saying heartfelt thanks from AFDB people who are in confusion to choose which place is better to live. I am not in that confusion list.

I read this thing somewhere. Anticipation, recognition are different from predicting the future. Anticipation, recognition are in our hands. It seems you are good in those two. The values  you considered are irreplaceable when it comes to the family relations and needs.

The points you mentioned regarding insurance, tax are worthy to note for the people who simply says in Canada car insurance and taxes are more. Especially the insurance point. If we understand, read all the insurance points either for car or health in us, everybody realize that the insurance they have  wont cover as much as in Canada. Most people dont know that thing. Here we simply pay what others has been paying. we feel good until everything goes well. once someone here out of track for some reason entire career going to be messed up.

IHealth insurance is the awesome option in canada, even there are long waits if it is not that much critical. Hospital standards in canada are more or equal to any western countries.

when it comes to crime rate you wrote the worththful points. What you said is 100% true. In us even in a small village people cant able to go to downtown at night in that village. where as in Toronto which seems like chicago, people feel fearless thats what needed.

and feeling a neighbor is not a stranger there. that is the awesome thing I observed.

congratulations on becoming a Canadian citizen. Now, I know how your feelings are. I know you definitely felt a good feeling when you got it.

Yes, most of them dont know that getting a pr is getting hard down the road. They feel that its take it granted. I say to the people, it makes only 5k$ less in your savings, first apply. They ask all the details and never wanted apply. At last they simply say opinionated suggestions.

Yes, I have one. I am going to be in your foot prints. At the end happiness makes more difference than savings.

Please reply to my PM.
