Buffalo Bills

SLOW OUT OF THE GATE?

The Bills received no favors from the schedule-makers, with a brutal first quarter of the season with matchups against the Colts, Patriots and Giants at home, and a trip to Miami in the middle. If they can stay in the mix, they get the benefit of playing their final two games (against the Cowboys and the Jets) in Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Miami Dolphins

ON TRACK BEFORE BYEE?

A chance to get hot before the byee week is there for the Dolphins, with less-threatening road matchups against Washington and Jacksonville before getting the Bills at home and the Jets in London. If the Dolphins want to crack into the postseason, they'll need to get ahead early in the season, as matchups against the Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots loom large down the stretch

New England Patriots

TITLE DEFENSE BEGINS

The defending world champions open up the season on Sept. 10 at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers, then get an early byee in Week 4. The schedule-makers threw a curveball at the Pats with back-to-back road games in Dallas and Indianapolis in Weeks 5 and 6. The schedule softens up before another tough stretch against Denver, Philadelphia and Houston toward the end of the season.

New York Jets

RETURN OF REX

Two games undoubtedly circled for the Jets are Weeks 10 and 17 -- both matchups with the Buffalo Bills, Rex Ryan's new team. The Jets will be under the spotlight in four primetime affairs in 2015, putting pressure on new head coach Todd Bowles and quarterbacks Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick. One of those signal-callers will have a tough stretch to end the season at the Cowboys and home against the Patriots before the second Bills game.

Baltimore Ravens

READY FOR THE ROAD

The Ravens will need to keep their bags packed in the first half of the season, as five of their first seven games are on the road. If they can come out of that with a winning record, they get the benefit of having the Seahawks, Chiefs and Steelers come to Baltimore in the final month, avoiding tough road environments.

Cincinnati Bengals

HOME COOKIN'

The Bengals only have to go on the road in back-to-back weeks once, with trips to San Francisco and Denver on the slate for Weeks 15 and 16. The downside with those matchups is that they are both in primetime, a place where Andy Dalton has struggled in his young career. The Bengals could look to make it five straight postseason trips if they can take advantage of tough, early home matchups against San Diego, Seattle and Kansas City

Cleveland Browns

LATE-SEASON OBSTACLES

Head coach Mike Pettine gets to face his former team, the Jets, in Week 1 even though they're without Rex Ryan these days. The Browns will need to take advantage of early-season matchups at home against the Titans and Raiders to help their postseason chances, as late-season road trips to Seattle and Kansas City loom as large obstacles to a trip to the big dance.

Pittsburgh Steelers

A LONG DECEMBER

The Steelers get a late-season byee in Week 11, but then have an incredibly difficult run from then on out. They must go on the road to face the Seahawks and each of their division rivals while also having to tango with Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning in Pittsburgh. That's a brutal final stretch of the season, meaning the Steelers will need to weather the early-season suspension of Le'Veon Bell to help secure a trip back to the postseason.

Houston Texans

CAN TEXANS STOP COLTS?

The Texans' quest to win back the AFC South crown from the Colts begins favorably with home matchups against the Chiefs and Buccaneers, and road trips to Atlanta and Carolina in the first few weeks. However, J.J. Watt and the Texans' defense will have to contend with Tom Brady (Week 14) and Andrew Luck (Week 15) in back-to-back weeks, adding one final roadblock to their postseason quest.

Indianapolis Colts

SOFT FINAL STRETCH

Andrew Luck will have his work cut out for him in Weeks 5 through 8 as he has to battle Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Cam Newton and Peyton Manning during that stretch. The Colts' mission for a third-straight AFC South title will likely be won or lost in that month, as the schedule softens up a bit to end the season.

Jacksonville Jaguars

LONDON CALLING AGAIN

The Jaguars' 2015 schedule looks like one long, uphill battle. They have three separate instances where they have to go on the road in back-to-back weeks, with a string of three straight roadies from Week 3 to Week 5 against New England, Indianapolis and Tampa Bay. Adding further difficulty to this stretch is a trip to London in Week 7 to face Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills.

Tennessee Titans

EARLY TESTS ABOUND

Tennessee will need to take advantage of winnable road contests against Tampa Bay and Cleveland to open the season, followed by four consecutive home games if they hope to make a return to the postseason. Their final month of the season poses significant challenges, with road trips to face the Jets, Patriots and Colts, as well as a visit from J.J. Watt and the Texans to Tennessee.

Denver Broncos

HOME FOR TOUGH TESTS

Depending on how one views it, it could be nice for the Broncos to get their two toughest road matchups out of the way in the first three weeks when they travel to Kansas City and Detroit. Later in the season, Peyton Manning will have home-field advantage in his corner when Aaron Rodgers (Week 8) and Tom Brady (Week 12) come to town.

Kansas City Chiefs

TOUGH SLEDDING TO START

The Chiefs have an unenviable start to the season, with three road trips to Houston, Green Bay and Cincinnati sandwiched around a visit from the Denver Broncos in the first four weeks. If they can survive that gauntlet and remain in the playoff mix, they get the benefit of three of their final four contests being held in the comfy confines of Arrowhead Stadium.

Oakland Raiders

REBOUND SEASON?

The Raiders have a chance to make some noise in the middle of the season with matchups against the Jets, Vikings and Titans. However, they'll need to be playing their best football at the end of the season when they have to face Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Philip Rivers in consecutive weeks before finishing out the season on the road in Kansas City.

San Diego Chargers

PLAYOFF RUN STARTS EARLY

It's always useful when warm-weather teams can avoid nasty cold-weather games late in the season, and the Chargers are pretty fortunate in that regard. Road trips to Jacksonville and Oakland will keep the Bolts in relatively warm climates, although trips to Kansas City and Denver in the month of December will pose challenges for a playoff-hungry team.

DALLAS COWBOYS

COWBOYS SEASON PREVIEWCOWBOYS LOOK TO BUILD ON '14

The Cowboys will be tested immediately with division matchups at home versus the New York Giants and on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles and old friend DeMarco Murray. The middle of the schedule will feature both Super Bowl XLIX teams visiting Dallas. Late-season matchups on the road at Green Bay and Buffalo could be key to the 'Boys postseason fortunes

NY GIANTS

PRIMED FOR BOUNCE BACK?

The front half of the schedule won't do Big Blue any favors. Trips to Buffalo and Philadelphia, as well as a visit from San Francisco and both games against the rival Cowboys could conspire to put the Giants in an early season hole. But if Tom Coughlin's team can survive that gauntlet, they could make a playoff run with late-season games against the Jets, Panthers and Vikings.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

EAGLES LOOK TO REPEAT

The Birds will be flying a lot early in the schedule with three of their first four games on the road. After that, things begin to open up. A Monday night game and two Sunday night contests sandwiched around a byee might be just what the doctor ordered for a team looking to make just its second playoff appearance in the past five seasons. Having three straight home games in Weeks 14 through 16 won't hurt, either.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS

LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK

There's a chance for Washington to make some early hay in 2015. Of the team's first seven opponents, only one -- the Eagles -- had a winning record in 2014. That's the good news. The bad news is that the slate is definitely back-loaded. Washington's final five contests of the regular season feature a pair of games against the Cowboys as well as a trip to Philadelphia.

CHICAGO BEARS

NOVEMBER SLATE LOOMS LARGE

The Bears will need to be ready when the 2015 season begins. Four of Chicago's first six games are against 2014 playoff teams, including the Packers and Seahawks within the first three weeks. Lest you think the Bears will get a breather midway through the season, feast your eyes on a November slate that includes trips to San Diego and Green Bay as well as a visit from the Denver Broncos. Late-season trips to Minnesota and Tampa Bay could offer respite if the Bears find themselves in the playoff hunt.

DETROIT LIONS

DAUNTING EARLY STRETCH

The Rule of Threes applies to the Lions' schedule in 2015. Detroit faces three tough opponents in the Broncos, Seahawks and Cardinals in Weeks 3 through 5. After a trip to Green Bay in Week 10, Detroit gets a welcomed three-game home stand, which includes the Eagles on Thanksgiving Day and the Packers on the following Thursday. The Lions end the season by playing three of their final four games on the road -- games that could be critical if the Motor City Kitties want a return to the postseason.

GREENBAY PACKERS

PACKERS LOOK FOR REVENGE

If the Packers are still stinging over last season's painful NFC Championship Game loss (and why wouldn't they be?), they won't have to wait long for their chance at a measure of revenge with the Seahawks visiting Lambeau in Week 2. Overall, the schedule spaces out nicely for the Pack. There are only two instances in which Green Bay faces teams with winning 2014 records in consecutive weeks. Week 8's Sunday night contest in Denver between the Packers and Broncos is worth circling on the calendar.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS

TOUGH OPENING SLATE

The Vikings will have an uphill battle to begin the season. The first month consists of a Monday night game in San Francisco before home games against the Lions and Chargers and a road contest in Denver. Throw in a Week 5 byee and Minnesota is looking at a very long stretch to finish the year. A late road trip to Arizona and a season-ending visit to Green Bay might not do much to spur optimism near the close of the campaign.

ATLANTA FALCONS

VITAL LATE-SEASON STRETCH

The Falcons might qualify for the NFC East division after the first quarter of the season. Atlanta will have faced all four members of that division by Week 5 -- including the Eagles, Giants and Cowboys to open the campaign. The Falcons should feel a lot more at home late in the year, closing the season with four out of five contests against NFC South foes.

CAROLINA PANTHERS

MID-SEASON SLATE IS KEY

Carolina's path to a third straight NFC South division title begins on a southern route. The Panthers' first four games are against teams from the AFC and NFC South, bookended by a couple of trips to the Sunshine State for games against the Jaguars and Buccaneers. Weeks 6 through 9 could be a season-defining run for the Panthers. They begin that stretch with a trip to Seattle followed by consecutive home contests against the Eagles, Colts and Packers.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

BYEE AT THE RIGHT TIME

The Saints' schedule is laid out about a nicely as you would have ever wanted. New Orleans doesn't have back-to-back road contests all season but does enjoy a pair of two-game homestands in November and December. Throw in a byee in Week 11 and the slate sets up well for the Saints to make a late-season push to the playoffs. We'll see if Sean Payton's revamped offense is up to the task.

TAMPABAY BUCCANEERS

LIGHT TRAVEL TO BEGIN

The Buccaneers will hope to get plenty of southern hospitality at the start of the season. The Bucs won't travel any further north than Nashville until a Week 7 trip to D.C. A three-game run against the Cowboys, Eagles and Colts could sink the ship in the middle of the season. But if Tampa survives, a Thursday night matchup against the Rams in Week 15 could be a springboard to something bigger.

ARIZONA CARDINALS

CHANCE FOR BIG START

Arizona has a good chance to start strong with their first four games against teams who sported losing records in 2014. After that, the Cardinals will leave the nest for a while. Of the Birds' eight road games, six of them come in a nine-week span. Their final road trip of the year is a Week 15 affair at Philadelphia, which begins a season-ending gauntlet with back-to-back games against the Packers and Seahawks.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

CAN TOMSULA KEEP TEAM AFLOAT?

Jim Tomsula and the new-look Niners have their work cut out for them early in the season. After the season opener at home against the Vikings, San Francisco faces the Steelers, Cardinals and Packers in consecutive weeks. The 49ers renew their rivalry with the Seattle Seahawks in a Thursday night matchup in Week 7. We'll see if it has the same level of intensity without Jim Harbaugh patrolling the San Francisco sidelines.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

RETURN TO SUPER BOWL?

Seattle's quest for a third straight Super Bowl appearance begins with consecutive road games at St. Louis and Green Bay. Midway through the season, the Seahawks will take trips to San Francisco and Dallas before a byee in Week 9. They will need the rest because after the break, the 'Hawks will host the Cardinals, Niners and Steelers. That stretch is certain to tell us quite a bit about the defending NFC champs.

ST.LOUIS RAMS

TESTED FROM THE START

The Rams will need to come out swinging as four of their first five games are against 2014 playoff teams -- including four division winners from a season ago. Things lighten somewhat after that since St. Louis plays four straight contests against teams that had losing records last season. If the Rams find themselves in the playoff race late in the season, a pair of divisional road trips to Seattle and San Francisco will have extra meaning.

AFC JUGGERNAUTS SQUARE OFF

The 2015 NFL season begins in fine fashion, with the showdown many predicted would be the AFC Championship Game last season before Le'Veon Bell went down with a hyperextended knee. Expect the fireworks to start here with a classic Ben Roethlisberger-Tom Brady showdown and carry on through the weekend with Giants-Cowboys.

PACKERS GET A SHOT AT REVENGE

DeMarco Murray will be seeking his share of revenge as well when his Eagles host the Cowboys, the team that let him walk.

TAKING IT BACK OLD SCHOOL

In a season filled with great Super Bowl rematches, none go further back than this one. Chiefs-Packers recalls 1967 and Super Bowl I, but this time it's Aaron Rodgers, not Bart Starr, leading the way in Green Bay. Among the other captivating inter-conference matchups this week: Eagles-Jets and Broncos-Lions.

CAN LUCK GET OVER THE HUMP?

He'll get his chance again -- this time with a revamped offense led by veterans Frank Gore and Andre Johnson -- as part of a Week 6 slate that also includes Cardinals-Steelers, a rematch of Super Bowl XLIII.

LUCK AND NEWTON FINALLY MEET

Of all of the players Andrew Luck was compared to leading into the 2012, he compared closest athletically to Cam Newton. Funny then that the two have never met. That will change in Week 8 in Carolina amidst a slate that also includes another great quarterback matchup: Aaron Rodgers against Peyton Manning.

Can the north-south runner be the difference-maker in this long-standing NFC East rivalry?

HOW WILL THE WEST BE WON?

BRADY AND MANNING MEET AGAIN

As an added bonus, the Colts and Steelers meet in a rematch of last year's thriller in which they combined for 85 points

THE COWBOYS SEEK REVENGE

Speaking of added motivation, LeSean McCoy will have some too as he returns to Philadelphia, this time as a member of the Bills.
