While Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is making grandiose plans to develop new capital Amaravati as a global and cosmopolitan city on par with Hyderabad, the ground reality seems contrasting.

Corporates, officials and employees, who are planning to shift their operations to Vijayawada from Hyderabad brought to the notice of AP government that there is too much 'casteism' in Vijayawada and public in Vijaywada need to bring a sea change in their attitude, if at all Vijayawada has to become a global and cosmopolitan city like Hyderabad.

The prime complaint being raised by them was that whenever they approach property owners for rent/ lease of their premises, the first question they face is about their caste and later native place, religion and state.

They said it was very annoying to answer such silly questions repeatedly whenever they approach someone in Vijayawada.

Even, the CM aired his views recently on this issue publicly saying that people in Vijayawada have to change their attitude drastically, else the development of new capital as global and cosmopolitan city is not possible.

Naidu specifically referred to the attitude of Vijayawada people in demanding unreasonable and higher rents to rent/lease their premises saying that they were much more than in Hyderabad.

He said people should realise that the rents/ leases in Hyderabad have increased over the years gradually based on the development and not over-night.

He urged Vijayawada people to adopt cosmopolitan culture since a capital city is expected to accommodate people from all faiths, castes, religions and nationals and avoid casteist remarks.
