The coffee trails of Yuviaga are in the plantations in the mountains of Mexico. Riders Diego Sada, Mauricio De Avila, and Samuel Díaz took their mountain bikes up in some of Mexico’s wildest landscapes, and the pictures they brought back tell the tale of their epic journey.
The name ‘Yuviaga’ derives from the tropical plant growing on the river’s banks, and the coffee is given this name in the El Mirador plantation. Locals have created a network of trails through more than 600 hectares of land to harvest the red fruit which the Yuviaga plant produces. Most of the towns the riders passed through had no more than 150 inhabitants per community.
“We climbed through dirt roads losing all communication with modern civilization until we reached our destination.”, they explain.
The ride was hot: in the humidity of the jungle environment, temperatures were already 32 degrees centigrade by 10am.
An incredible journey in a rarely-visited part of Mexico.
