Goodness and humanity surround us in different forms. One such example is the NAAM Foundation, the nongovernmental organisation, established and run by actors Nana Patekar and Makarand Anaspure.

Adding to their long list of charitable deeds, the two have decided NAAM will adopt two more villages, Kutubkheda and Kaudar, Maharashtra.

The villages chosen were selected from a set of 100 villages based on criteria like degree of participation on behalf of the villagers, the lack of alcohol addiction, cutting of trees for firewood and also, the severity of water scarcity.

The aim of the foundation is to ensure improved quality of life in the villages they adopt, to make them self sufficient and tanker-free.

Deeply moved by the plight of farmers in the drought hit state, Nana Patekar and Makarand were keen to alleviate their suffering. NAAM extends aid to families of farmers affected by the drought, and to those families where the farmers ended their lives due to their inability to repay the loans. The functioning objectives of the foundation are to create employment opportunities, educate children of financially unstable farmers, generate a permanent solution to the problem of water scarcity, and facilitate agricultural growth.

In addition, NAAM will soon be setting up a Krushi Seva Kendra with the help of agricultural activists, to bring farmers up to date with improved farming techniques.

In the wake of the massive drought that has hit the state leading to severe water scarcity in some regions, the foundation will be planting one crore saplings across the state.

Due to awareness they have raised for their cause and their actions, people have been magnanimously sending funds, aiding the monetary status of the foundation, and ensuring dearth of money does not stand in the way of this noble act.

With such support, the two have managed to establish five centres, in Matunga, Pune, Thane, Nagpur and Aurangabad, to ensure continuous effective efforts to help the affected farmers.
