ridding India of caste is next to impossible. So we go to the next best option. Who is best equipped to take on all castes together, and be a leader for all.

Modi tried to do it, by claiming he's an OBC.

 

He won, not just because the middle class voted for him, but because the dalits and OBCs voted for him. He forgot that conveniently after the elections.

 

He's now giving sops for middle class, while neglecting the majority that voted him to power. That's what any BJP PM would do is obvious now.

 

They'll never let go off the upper caste vote.

Congress is the establishment, and is not trust worthy.

 

The dravidian movement, and similar OBC movements that brought DMK, SP, JDU,  to an extent TDP, to power have failed miserably in correcting the social injustice in India, after succeeding for a short while to displace the then power structure.

They have created a new class inside caste. upper class OBC, and upper class Dalit. That refuses to share power with other oppressed castes.

So in view of the current realities, who to trust to run politics of social justice?

 

obviously, the affirmative action schemes in India need a lot of fine tuning, and politicians we put forward should be brave enough to take up the mantle of such revision in reservation criteria.

 

Castes that currently benefit from the reservation will not let any change without a strong protest.

I can only see a dalit leader (a popular one), reach out for oppressed classes among other castes and promise to take them along.

 

A muslim leader is also capable of doing this.

 

For one, they don't need to convince their supporters that they would fight for their rights. It is a given.

 

They only need to find the right reservation policy and sell it to those other oppressed castes that don't have representation and create new votebanks.

All this is possible, if extensive caste based statistics is made available by the central govt.

 

And a comprehensive rewriting of reservation policy is done - Unlike the patch up job done by Mandal Commission.

One such potential leader, I think, that India lost to campus politics was Rohit Vemula. The first time I read his beautiful letter, it was obvious that he had an extraordinary mind.

 

A mind that doesn't blame others, a mind that refuses to resent others for the shyte that they throw at it, must have extraordinary courage and balance.

 

And the response that his death has evoked, has made me feel very optimistic about India again.

I really hope there's a dalit/Muslim PM in India by the next decade. 

 

I hope that the dalits leave politics of victimization, and put together a winning coalition of other oppressed extremely backward castes to shake the foundations of the country.

I also hope that Muslims leave their religious politics and exploit their vote bank advantage to take other oppressed classes along with them.

 

I feel sad for the dalits who trust BJP. I hope they hear what BJP supporters are saying about them, and stop voting for BJP. Let BJP die a natural death.

 

The upper caste vote doesn't matter. Time to politically alienate them along with upper class OBC, dalit.
