but still an MS guy can apply in regular with his Bachelor's degree from India...and also if there is a lottery, even if the MS guy misses in 20,000, his application is still added to the regular quote for another lottery...

Please see my other post...again when the beneficiary has an advanced degree but chosen not to use it towards applying in the advance degree then that's a choice either made by the beneficiary...

Again, before the lottery the beneficiary using advance degree was NOT eligible to apply with the 65,000 applications...however with the lottery, the draw is also most likely another lottery with the 65,000 so it's a chance they could be picked up or not, it's a chance.

Ok since this topic came up anyways...I have a couple of questions:

1) Certain group of people were not given equal rights if not treated as slaves in this country till very last century, so why did they fight for EQUAL rights but not for reservations?

2) If there is a politician/party who can bring into effect strict policies of equality in education, housing, employment, etc... and against discrimination of individuals based on race religion caste color state etc etc...will all people who are enjoying privilege's give it up and bring them to power?

First of all, more than 70% of those working in govt. offices group A are upper caste in India. so reservations are a big joke. their implementation is decent only down south. Not up north.

reservations are not a 'privilege'. it is their right.

better question to ask is, has the land reforms been implemented, and dalits given proportional share of land - with access to water?

so one or a few castes will hold land, and with that money - political power. But dalits are the 'privileged' here?

what wisdom man? upper castes hoarded wealth and power. so they must pay. simple.

or give the lower castes their own country. They can have a meritorious glorious nation for themselves.

This is my personal opinion...

MLK said "I am not a leader by choice, if you like the principles of equality and you can lead me through achieving it, I will be your greatest follower and you will be my greatest leader"

I think people who feel themselves and their near and dear are being oppressed or were oppressed should fight for equality.

Fighting for new reservations or with holding their current reservations are equally oppressing certain other individuals and their near and dear...then their bubble will burst some day and they will fight for reservations if not now may be 200 years later...

This will never stop if no one fights for equality...

As Gandhiji once said "An eye for an eye makes everyone blind".

May be it was better if there were several countries not states...probably its better to part ways than fighting amongst brothers in the same home...

I think the equality you have in mind is different from the equality MLK fought for.

but then, he mentions that Gandhi was his ideal. So I have to doubt if he knew what he was saying :giggle:

gandhi is a bania oppressor. not a fighter for equality.

gandhi said so many stupid things. a guy  from an oppressed caste cannot compete on equal terms with others.

so you say, he should actively ask for things that will not help him at all, one bit.

I don't think there are different varieties of equality...and Gandhiji was atleast in a way better because he tried to unite the nation to fight for independence...you may not have respect for him but the world does...anyways...wait for our next 10 generations...because when people are oppressed they will fight back again...great grand kids of individuals who are not getting reservations will fight back when they will have nothing to lose...

yeah. that's better system than have fight for 'equality' to maintain status quo.

let different groups be at the top at different times. and different groups be on the dole at different times.

malli malli same thing enduku chepthav bhayya.

caste is one criteria. It doesn't matter if the lower caste guy is rich. If no one else from his caste steps forward to take the seat, he should take it.

The only question is, is his caste really backward or not. Are they still treated like backward. What is their overall numbers in the govt. institutions. Other criteria can also be added. Not whether he's rich or not. It doesn't matter.

If he's rich, just consider that he's representing his people. Even though he doesn't care about his caste.
