The valet who interrupted a stabbing incident at General Motors’ Tech Center in Warren is to be recognized for his quick reaction.

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts on Thursday plans to give Didarul Sarder a mayoral proclamation for his role in stopping a 32-year-old woman who was stabbing her 52-year-old mother, a GM employee, outside the center’s lobby.

When Sarder saw the incident unfold, the parking valet supervisor took out his concealed handgun and yelled to the woman to stop her attack. When she saw Sarder with his gun, the woman ended her attack, Fouts said.

Sarder has a license to carry a concealed weapon.

“This is a clear act of heroism by Sarder, probably saving a life,” Fouts said Wednesday in a statement. “He deserves special recognition for his quick action.”

After the Feb. 10 attack, the Warren resident told The Detroit News: “My first reaction was to try to save this woman’s life.”

Sarder was suspended from his job from the valet company for carrying the weapon, but was later reinstated.

He will also receive a $1,000 gift certificate from Marty Clauw of Elegant Jewelers.

Also at Thursday’s 11:30 a.m. ceremony at Fouts’ office at Warren City Hall, officials are to show a video of the assault and Sarder’s actions.
