Urgent -- Full Time Employee Laid Off In Non It Field

I currently hold H1-B from a large American Corporation. Until today, I was a full time employee of this corporation and got laid off today. The Job Title on H1-B is “Senior Lubrication Engineer’ with SOC Code '17-2112' and SOC Occupation Title of ‘Industrial Engineers’. I have been working with this company for about 4 years. Prior to taking up this job I did my masters in the USA. I had previous work experience in IT in India and now I am considering switching back to IT. I have a few questions -
1. Am I allowed to transfer my H1-B to an IT Consulting Firm with the current job title that I have or is that not allowed?
2. How much time do I have before which I need to transfer my H1-B to continue a legal stay in the USA
3. I have an approved I-140 from this corporation and my wife works on a H4 EAD. The EAD is valid till 2018. Can she continue to work or does my situation jeopardize her eligibility for employment in the USA
Please help and answer these. Thank you.

Last date today, but they said involuntary separation of March 1st. 4 weeks pay and 4 weeks pay after signing the separation  agrrement.

I did ask them not to revoke my H1B for some time but no reply yet.

I have been in the same situation December last year.but in IT field though.

I don't know the answer to whether non IT can transfer existing H1-B to IT. If this is possible then do below. I've done the same.

  • Immediately find a desi mestri and have him file a LCA
  • In the meanwhile ask your current employer to hold off revoking. Techinically as long as you are getting pair, they wont revoke it. At least that's what my former company did. Attorney's there said there is no point in cancelling as long as the person is getting paid by the company
  • Try to get a date when they will file revocation. Request them to keep it close to last day of last pay check. After that it'll take them at least a week to get all documentation ready. If you don't find a non-IT job before they revoke, ask desi mestri to file for H1 transfer!

Sorry for your situation. All the best.
